Halloween!

So we have to have a Halloween Party. It's basically a requirement for us. I spoke with the students in SAC, and they are interested in going in with us on the party. It would be sort of an Art Department Halloween. I think the best time for us to hold the party is Friday, October 29th after 7 pm or something.
I'm personally fine with hosting the party on 3rd Floor Grinstead, but I would like your input as well. We could run a movie in 317, play games in 313, and serve food in 311 (can't be by computers). I have not yet looked into the Ozark Room in UCC, but we would have to order food from Sodexo is we held our party there.
Some fun things for us to do at the party would include a costume contest and a pumpkin-painting contest.  We may have to charge $1 or something for people to enter the contests, since we'll have to pay for good prizes and pumpkins and such.
I would like to get a group of people together to help plan the party. If we could have someone head each contest or division of the party, that would be great. We could have someone in charge of food, someone for pumpkins, and you get the idea. We'll need judges for these things, too. Maybe teachers?
Email ucmaiga@gmail.com if you are interested in planning the Halloween Party. We can hold a meeting sometime between now and the party to plan everything out. I hope you're as excited for this as I am!

Columbia Field Trip

We are planning to take a field trip to Columbia to visit MayeCreate and possibly other design studios. The field trip will be Saturday, November 6th. Marie Newell has been gracious enough to offer us a tour of the facility and advice on job searching after graduation.
We may eat lunch or dinner in Columbia, it depends on the times we schedule visits. We will organize a carpool as we approach the date. Check here for more information as it develops.

Spirit Windows

The following was also emailed to those who showed interest in Spirit Windows:

So, here's the deal. I will be going in Monday morning at 7 am to bring in the paint and supplies for our window. Our window is #18. We can wash brushes in the sink located in the supply closest inside Chik-Fil-A. We may be able to store our supplies there as well. All of our supplies are currently in a box labeled SAC / AIGA. It has a logo of a dog on the side. Right now, I do not know if that box will be kept at the Union or not. Feel free to text me (636-667-2038) to ask where the box is if you come in to paint and I'm not there. Some supplies that we could still use would be a stool to reach the top of the window easily and a large bucket to wash out brushes while we're there. Also, if you have a painting palette you are willing to let us borrow for a couple of days, that would be great! I forgot mine at my parents' house. You can also bring in your own paint that is NON-PERMANENT and works on NON-POROUS surfaces. Window chalk works as well. I picked up some tempera paints for us to use. Do not open new bottles of the paint until one is used up.
While I am there in the morning, I plan to tape the window and start on the sketch. I will be there until 8:30 when I have to pack up and leave for class. Then, I will return at 3 pm. Brandi and Matt said that they will arrive to paint after 4 pm. We can paint until 9 pm. On Tuesday, Brandi can paint from 9 am to noon. Then, I will come in at 4 pm. You guys can come and help anytime you want. There are copies of the design sketch in the box for reference and a print-out of the UCM Crest and Liberty Leading the People. Liberty is mainly for color reference. The UCM Crest is on the flag that Mo is holding. You guys can also pose for each other for reference.
I hope to see you all there at some point. I think that this can be a fun creative outlet for us. Feel free to invite your friends to come help. If you are coming at night, be sure to bring a few dollars to help cover the cost of ordering a pizza or something.

See you there!

Marie
