T-shirt Designs

So we've been batting around the idea of a t-shirt design contest. We'll officially hold the contest next semester, but I figured I might as well post the specifications now in case you wanted to work on designs during winter break.

The designs should be created in Adobe Illustrator. The artboard can be 13" by 12" but the design itself cannot be wider than 11". We are only designing fronts of shirts. Two colors max, and it's best if they're spot colors. All strokes must be a 2-point minimum. All text should be converted to outlines. Do not mention UCM or AIGA. These shirts should be desirable by students of any major. Also, beware of copyright images and text, since these designs will be for commercial purposes. We do not yet have a deadline. We'll probably have you turn in the designs on the server.

Holiday Card Sales

This winter, UCM AIGA Student Group is selling holiday cards that the students have designed. There are five designs to choose from. If you would like to order cards, please talk to a student member or complete the order form found here. Orders must be completed by 5 pm December 2nd.
You can also find us selling cards at the UCM Holiday Market on December 1st from 4 pm to 7 pm in the Elliott Union. So send out a little love this season and support your local students.

Holiday Cards

I wanted to clarify the details regarding this year's Holiday Cards. The cards will be full CMYK, so use whatever colors you prefer. We only design the fronts of the card. The image area will be 4.25" x 5.5" or a quarter of a standard letter sheet. It can be either landscape or portrait orientation. You can design in any Adobe program. Designs must be related to the holidays or winter, but you cannot specify a certain holiday or religion.
Students must bring a print-out of their designs to the November 4th meeting. We will vote on our top 4 favorite designs at that meeting. We will then create selling sheets and start selling cards. I plan to have the first orders complete by the start of Thanksgiving Break. We may sell cards through this blog, too, like last year.

Problems with Following

I had some of our members ask about the Following feature on blogspot. It seems that the Follower gadget does not work for our site, among hundreds of others. I've tried moving it around and viewing it from other locations, but to no avail. You can still Follow the blog to keep up to date with postings. Here's how: (you must have a blogger account for this to work, if you have a gmail account, you should automatically have a blogger account)
1. Log in to your blogger account.
2. Scroll down to the Reading Section at the bottom.
3. Under the list of blogs you're Following, click ADD.
4. Enter the url of our blog: http://ucmaiga.blogspot.com
5. This should allow updates on the blog to post to your blogger dashboard.

Halloween!

So we have to have a Halloween Party. It's basically a requirement for us. I spoke with the students in SAC, and they are interested in going in with us on the party. It would be sort of an Art Department Halloween. I think the best time for us to hold the party is Friday, October 29th after 7 pm or something.
I'm personally fine with hosting the party on 3rd Floor Grinstead, but I would like your input as well. We could run a movie in 317, play games in 313, and serve food in 311 (can't be by computers). I have not yet looked into the Ozark Room in UCC, but we would have to order food from Sodexo is we held our party there.
Some fun things for us to do at the party would include a costume contest and a pumpkin-painting contest.  We may have to charge $1 or something for people to enter the contests, since we'll have to pay for good prizes and pumpkins and such.
I would like to get a group of people together to help plan the party. If we could have someone head each contest or division of the party, that would be great. We could have someone in charge of food, someone for pumpkins, and you get the idea. We'll need judges for these things, too. Maybe teachers?
