Hey everyone!

Don't forget to sign up for Portfolio Day and the Hallmark Studio Tour if you're interested. Registration for the Hallmark Tour is limited to 25 so hurry, hurry!

Last night was a great kickoff to KC Design Week! Our student team, composed of 2 graphic designers, 2 architects, and 1 urban planner won the Design Challenge! The client was Harvesters Community Food Network and the challenge was to create a better storage/stacking system for the empty barrels in their warehouse. Read coverage of the event on KC Free Press. Wish more (or at least one) of our members from UCM could have made it to the event. You missed a very fun night and a free happy hour!

Tonight is the Branding Obama event. Don't miss out! I think I have one open spot in my car if anyone is interested.

AIGA KC Twenty

Don't forget to register for AIGA KC Twenty! I will for sure be going, and Jessica said she will be there. Let me know if you want a ride!

Also, KC Design Week is Feb 1-5. Check out the events here. Right now, I'm planning on attending the Kick-off, Branding Obama, possibly Pecha Kucha, and the events on Friday. That could change, depending on my work load for the week. Don't forget, all the events are FREE! And a great way to connect with people in the design community and celebrate Kansas City design.

Student ADDY Competition | Deadline Jan. 22nd

The AAF - Kansas City Student ADDY competition call for entries is attached. If your school is located near the Kansas City area, this is a great opportunity for students to be rewarded for creative efforts. Gold winning entries from the Kansas City competition will advance to the District ADDY competition and winners from there advance to the National ADDY competition.

The entry deadline is this Friday, January 22, 12 noon. Students must enter in the Student ADDY competition of the American Advertising Federation club closest to their school so if there is a competition closer than Kansas City, please submit to that. All entries should be entered in the online National ADDY software located at http://www.omnicontests.com/addy/omnicontests/logon.cfm. Students should click on I AM A STUDENT to get started.

If the glory of an award from a national advertising competition is not enough to drive your entries, how about a financial incentive? The AAF - Kansas City Foundation will award a $500.00 scholarship to the school of the Best of Show winner in the Kansas City Student ADDY competition. National Ad2 awards a $1,000.00 cash prize for the National Student ADDY Best of Show winner.

Please pass this information along to others in your program. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

AAF-KC Scholarship

For those who weren't able to go to Ad Club Career Day in November and hear about it in person, American Advertising Federation-Kansas City Foundation (previously Kansas City Ad Club) is offering scholarships for Fall 2010/Spring 2011 semesters to advertising, communications, marketing and graphic design students.

UCM students are eligible (and have won in the past!) The deadline for the application is February 1, 2010. To apply online, visit aafkc.com and go to About Us: Ad Club Foundation. The application process also requires an interview in Kansas City for students who's applications are being considered. Students will be informed by mail, shortly after the application deadline if they have been selected for an interview.

Eligible students include those who will be Juniors or Seniors during the 2010/2011 school year. (Graduate students NOT eligible.)
Financial assistance of $750 per semester (paid to the school) is automatically renewed for the following year if application is resubmitted and school and major status is confirmed. You will have the support and counsel of a mentor from the pro membership of AAF-KC and a one year membership of the AAF-KC including all its benefits and free attendance to regular program activities while in school.

Still debating about applying?
For more information about the scholarship, contact Rachel Hack (rachel@aafkc.com) or call the Ad Club office (816-822-0300).
